Great Western Sports
& Community Centre
Welcome to the new home of the Great Western Football & Netball Club, one of the primary user groups of this new facility officially opening sometime in February 2025.
Together with the Northern Grampians Shire Council, we are thrilled to introduce Great Western's newest community facility which will cater for a range of different events and public engagements into the future. Scheduled for official opening sometime in February, our committee was lucky enough to get a progress walk-through recently to see how things are coming along. Have a look at some progress photos below.
Our club has been actively engaging in council's Project Control Group (PCG) throughout the development of the building given it will be our home for a significant portion of the year. The PCG features all primary users identified as potential beneficiaries for a facility such as this, our Football & Netball Club being one. It's important our local community understand this change in direction for the new building given the previous iterations were largely owned and operated by ourselves.
We're supportive of the facility being positioned as more than a football & netball epicentre like it has been in the past, but rather a place where anyone within Great Western or surrounds is welcome and can enjoy the many benefits the facility provides. It's a community hub, a place where people can gather and enjoy time together no matter their affiliation. This model is something new and exciting for our town.
As a result of this repositioning exercise and in conjunction with the team at council, our club is facilitating a Community Contributions Program to aid in obtaining facility equipment and complimentary operational services. Whilst the building will be completed under the council managed project, it won't facilitate supportive needs such as audio equipment, new tables & chairs, storage solutions etc. The aim of the contributions program is to provide additional funds to help resource these areas and ensure it can facilitate a range of community services from the start.
If you or anyone you know would like to get involved and help make our new facility the best it can be and as quickly as as it can be, please look over the below packages and get in touch if you would like to participate.
